We have a large house cat that gains weight on minimal food. Charlie is one of those that eats an entire bowl of food, no matter how much is there, so self-regulating he’s not. We think it’s from being a stray cat not sure of where his next meal was coming from. He also wakes up at or before dawn expecting to be fed.

So to control portion size and (hopefully) occasionally be able to sleep in, we bought your feeder a year or so ago. It’s been great for all of us! It’s so easy to fill the top bowl and know he’ll be fed on a regular schedule. We had trained him to sit when we got his food ready, so now as time approaches for a meal, he’ll go sit in front of the bowl and wait. He also thinks that talking to it helps things along.

We also were pleasantly surprised that it solved our ant problem, which had been a concern. He licks the bowl clean & apparently the mechanism seals tightly enough they don’t know there’s food in there. Have recommended it to friends.

I don’t want or allow my cats to wake me up to eat. I can’t use the self feeders that you just fill up because my cats put Garfield to shame! I found the answer to my prayers & world’s best invention! The Le Bistro Electronic Portion-Control Automatic Pet Feeder (http://www.petmate.com/le-bistro-programmable-feeder). I purchased 3 of them. 2 I have out all the time & the third is a back up in case my moms cat comes to visit. I’ve had them over 3 years & never had a problem! I program the times I want them to go off & how much I want it to dispense. They stay on their diet & I can sleep in our travel! They know the feeders go off & sit in front of it about 5 minutes before. I’ve recommended to my clients & several of them have purchased it & love it as well.

I love that this feeder is easy to program. It has allowed me to sleep in while my cat get’s fed as early as she likes. The first problem is that my cat is always hungry, so she bats at the bowl and she knocks it out of place causing her next feeding to fall on the carpet if I’m not there to see it. The other issue is that when she bats it, a few pieces of food slip out. A few pieces, many times per day can really add up! My cat is overweight and on a strict diet, but despite my best (expensive) efforts, she is still overfed.

I have owned this product for about 2 years now. I have 4 cats and I use it primarily when we go on vacation. My cats eat 3 times a day – breakfast, dinner and nightime snack. I don’t keep food out all day mainly because of ants and my one cat who eats perpetually. I can arrange for someone to come to my house just once a day in the afternoon to feed them wet food for dinner and clean their litter boxes. The remaining meals I program into the feeder and fill it with 3 lbs of dry food. They are good to go for as many as 10 days. I even use it when we take day trips and get home very late. They have food at scheduled times and no one has to take care of them. We love it. I am now trying it for night time snacking. My one cat tries to wake me up at 4:30 for breakfast. I’d like to sleep so I am trying to use the auto feeder to aleve me of that burden. Great product.

I had to return the product because I could not program it. I found that
    it was not user friendly.

This feeder offers a solution to my cat-feeding problems, however I wish the removable dish was made of stainless steel. My cat has chin acne and plastic bowls cause break-outs. Please make a version with a stainless steel bowl. Or offer a replacement bowl in stainless steels that interested customers could purchase.

We bought this feeder last Tuesday to see if this would help us when we go away on weekends. We have 3 cats, 2 seniors and a 3 yr old Maine Coon. We didn’t like the fact we would have to leave giant bowls of food out b/c the Maine Coon is trying to maintain a healthy weight. The vet told me they never wanted to see him over 10kg and unfortunately since May he has exceeded that by .06 kg not a huge amount but it can add up fast. So we set it up when we got home so we could test it, the last thing we wanted to do is set it up the day we left to come home and find that we had starved our cats b/c it didn’t work. Well by Friday I decided this thing was too good to only use when we are away from home and that I wanted to use it ALL the time. I ordered the adapter that night! Now when we go out of town we will still use batteries b/c our condo building is prone to power blips and I would hate to think that the power would go out and we wouldn’t be around to reset it. I have set it to go off @ 6 am & 6 pm and I think the felines are enjoying the consistency of feedings, as they no longer have to wait for the humans to wake up to be fed. We work wonky hours so they weren’t getting fed at the same time each day. I wish I would have bought this 3 years ago when we got Gus!

I have had the Le Bistro programmable feeder for almost a year now and it works great. Except Oopa has learned to reach up into the shoot and has now destroyed the hopper. It state on the manual that I should be able to order one off the site. I cant seem to find it.

  • Amanda

My mistake it is not the hopper but the tabs which hold the food back. I have been able to disassemble the machine but cant seem to find a plastic tab that will fit to hold the food back.

We bought this product to control tigger’s eating habits. She is almost obsessed with food and she begins to cry crazy when someone moves around the kitchen. We decided to cut the relation between human and food to get rid of this habit. It worked great for 2 weeks but she finally find out where food is coming from. Now she is lying on her back and working on the plastic gate on top of the bowl. It sometimes take 20 minutes for her but she manages to get food in the bowl by this technique.. It can be a good choice for less clever cats but we need to find something else as infinity has been easy for her to penetrate.

I bought this when I wanted to take a weekend trip and couldn’t find anyone to cat sit for me. It’s been great! My kitties like to eat at 5am, I don’t like to wake up anywhere near that time! They used to terrorize my bedroom knocking things over and scratching anything in sight, but not anymore thanks to this feeder! They were scared of it for the first day, but now the sounds of the food dropping and they dash off to the dish. It’s just big enough for 2 cats, they kind of fight a little, but it works.

The only concern I have for it is that one of my cats has a plastic allergy causing “kitty acne” on his chin. I’ve got a ceramic water fountain, ceramic dishes for their raw food, but this feeder has only a plastic dish :( I covered it in tinfoil, but that didn’t really work so well. I’m trying to think up something to cover the edge of the dish with metal or ceramic, but haven’t though up a good solution yet. I would LOVE if they sold a metal dish, or even a stick on metal piece that could cover the rim of the dish!

I have le bistro since last year and it is very nice, I loved it but my problem is the same that Amanda had: the plastic tabs, I do not know how, were broken, the pieces started to be dispensed with the food. Now I have the electronic part that is functioning but I can not control the food. Please, petmate, we need parts o be replaced and this plastic that controls the food portion is essential.
