Moving Essentials to Keep Your Dog Comfortable in a New Space

Tips to Keep Your Dog Comfortable When You Move

Moving is a big project, and while it can be an exciting time, it may also put a bit of stress on you and your favorite four-legged family members. Fortunately, you can take some measures to ensure your dog feels comfortable and safe during your move, like investing in a reliable travel kennel for dog refuge. But the move doesn’t end right when you bring your dog into the new home. Keep everyone in the family happy with these essentials before, during, and after your move.

1. Cozy Kennel

Kennels, or travel dog kennels, are an option pet parents turn to for training, travel, containment, and safety. During a big move, you can use a kennel to transport your dog and keep them safe in a new environment while you bring boxes into the home and place heavy furniture. If you don’t own a kennel, you may not know where to start with research. You need a kennel that is appropriate for your dog, where they can stand, turn, and stretch out their limbs. Kennels are bigger than you think! Make sure you find a kennel that your dog feels comfortable sleeping and lounging in during the move. You can bring out the kennel right when you start making moving plans so your dog has time to get familiar with it.

2. Comfy Dog Bed(s)

Dogs love it when they get to sleep next to you, but they also enjoy having their own bed where they can nap and lounge when they’re not playing or patrolling the yard. When you're moving, it can be beneficial to have two dog beds available. Picking up another dog bed or checking out some dog couches for your furry bestie can help them feel like they have their own safe space in the new home. Dogs can get a little nervous in unfamiliar surroundings, so they might be unable to relax in one place for as long. You can keep beds in separate rooms where you spend a lot of time so your pup can lounge near you in either space.

3. Favorite Toys

Most dogs have a favorite toy, and you can use your dog’s go-to toy and some backups to play and give them the attention they need in a new home. Invest in some other toys that you think your dog will love, and let them play with these toys before you move. You can put one in their travel kennel for dog comfort, have one waiting at the new home, and keep another on one of their beds in the new space. As you might suspect, your dog will take these toys where they please, but at least they can play with something familiar when they want it.

4. Clean Bowls

Keep food and water bowls clean for a happier, healthier pet. Water bowls should be at least rinsed and refilled daily (unless you have a fountain) and washed frequently with soap and clean water. Wet food bowls need daily cleanings, and dry food bowls should get a good cleaning at least once a week. If you’re moving, some things can get misplaced or transferred to the new place separately. Pick up an extra set of food bowls and a food storage container to ensure you have everything you need and backups to spare if things are lost or waiting to get cleaned.

Moving is a process for everyone, even pets. Help them stay happy and healthy by supplying your pets with what they need for safety and comfort, and be sure to give them plenty of love, too!
